The study shows that some features of concussion scenarios are common to all positions, but several position-specific features exist and can inform the design of position-specific helmets for NFL players. In response to the opioid epidemic, California state officials sought to fund a variety of projects aimed at reducing opioid-related deaths. We describe the California Poison Control System's (CPCS) successful effort in integrating itself into the state's public health response to the opioid epidemic and describe poison control center staff attitudes and perceptions regarding the role of poison control centers at treating opioid withdrawal and addiction.
The CPCS created a leadership team and a separate 24/7 hotline, called the CPCS-Bridge line, to field calls from frontline health care providers interested in initiating medications for opioid use disorder for their patients. The implementation process also included training of all CPCS staff. In addition, the leadership team conducted an anonymous survey study to analyze attitudes and perceptions of poison center staff on the role of the poison center in the management of opioid use disorder. Descriptive statistics were used to characterize the data.
Ce public health domain. Increased federal funding to poison centers is likely to be mutually beneficial to all parties involved. The optimal management of pediatric craniopharyngiomas remains controversial. This study aimed to characterize long-term outcomes in a contemporary cohort of children undergoing surgery for craniopharyngiomas.
This was a retrospective review of 37 consecutive children who underwent surgery for craniopharyngioma with a median follow-up duration of 79 months (range 5-127 months). Patients were stratified by extent of resection (EOR) and need for adjuvant radiation therapy (RT). Imaging studies were reviewed to grade extent of hypothalamic involvement. Data on functional outcomes, pituitary function, and obesity were analyzed.
Gross total resection was achieved in 16 patients (43.2%), near total resection in six patients (16.2%), and subtotal resection (STR) in 15 patients (40.5%). The recurrence-free survival rate was 81.1% and 70.3% at 5- and 10-year follow-up, respectively. Survival analysis showed superior disease control in patients undergoing STR + RT (p = 0.008). Functional outcomes were independentand those with tumors not amenable to radical resection are at risk for developing obesity on long-term follow-up.This paper describes a novel dataset of iconic gestures, together with a publicly available robot-based elicitation method to record these gestures, which consists of playing a game of charades with a humanoid robot. The game was deployed at a science museum (NEMO) and a large popular music festival (Lowlands) in the Netherlands. This resulted in recordings of 428 participants, both adults and children, performing 3715 silent iconic gestures for 35 different objects in a naturalistic setting. Our dataset adds to existing collections of iconic gesture recordings in two important ways. First, participants were free to choose how they represented the broad concepts using gestures, and they were asked to perform a second attempt if the robot did not recognize their gesture the first time. This provides insight into potential repair strategies that might be used. Second, by making the interactive game available we enable other researchers to collect additional recordings, for different concepts, and in diverse cultures or contexts. This can be done in a consistent manner because a robot is used as a confederate in the elicitation procedure, which ensures that every data collection session plays out in the same way. The current dataset can be used for research into human gesturing behavior, and as input for the gesture recognition and production capabilities of robots and virtual agents.Phishing emails constitute a major problem, linked to fraud and exploitation as well as subsequent negative health outcomes including depression and suicide. Because of their sheer volume, and because phishing emails are designed to deceive, purely technological solutions can only go so far, leaving human judgment as the last line of defense. However, because it is difficult to phish people in the lab, little is known about the cognitive and neural mechanisms underlying phishing susceptibility. There is therefore a critical need to develop an ecologically valid lab-based measure of phishing susceptibility that will allow evaluation of the cognitive mechanisms involved in phishing detection. Here we present such a measure based on a task, the Phishing Email Suspicion Test (PEST), and a cognitive model to quantify behavior. In PEST, participants rate a series of phishing and non-phishing emails according to their level of suspicion. By comparing suspicion scores for each email to its real-world efficacy, we find initial support for the ecological validity of PEST - phishing emails that were more effective in the real world were more effective at deceiving people in the lab. In the proposed computational model, we quantify behavior in terms of participants' overall level of suspicion of emails, their ability to distinguish phishing from non-phishing emails, and the extent to which emails from the recent past bias their current decision. Together, our task and model provide a framework for studying the cognitive neuroscience of phishing detection. For the photocatalytic degradation of antioxidant 2,6-di-tert-butyl-hydroxytoluene (BHT), several TiO2-based composites have been prepared in MWCNT from titanium isopropoxide and ethanol via supercritical CO2 synthesis followed by calcination at 400 °C. TEM and XRD showed uniform coverage of CNT by 10 nm TiO2 particles in the anatase form, and spectral analyses revealed the formation of CNT/TiO2 structure. Further, synthesized material displayed significant visible light absorption and absorption edge shifted to longer wavelengths. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/6-thio-dg.html Once the material was characterized, the effect of adsorption and photochemical degradation of BHT was investigated in the wavelength range from 400 to 700 nm, in batch mode, by monitoring the concentrations of BHT as a function of time. CNT/TiO2 composites were more efficient than commercial TiO2 P25 in the photodegradation of the antioxidant. In particular, CNT50/TiO250, a composite with 50% by weight of CNT, was the best catalyst, stable, and completely degrading BHT within 30 min of exposure to visible light.
